Station Overview

The station is in a semi-rural area but the town is encroaching rapidly. Property is 10 acres with much of it covered in a working vineyard (this is California after all!). That means no buried cables and nothing laying on the ground if at all possible. It adds to the challenge of routing cables and wire antennas, all of which must be elevated so that a tractor can drive underneath.

Our shack is located in a converted 2-car garage that's partially insulated and has a nice new heatpump to keep us comfortable.

Most importantly, this station was designed and optimized for multi-operator contesting with few compromises. That's what led us to the tower-per-band concept with Yagi stacks, plus full-sized wire antennas for the low bands. And of course the inside of the station has six operator positions with state-of-the-art radios, amplifiers, and support equipment.

Have you ever wanted to own a station like this? Of course you have! But be careful what you wish for: Time and weather are not friendly to all that aluminum and steel, so ongoing maintenance is way more expensive and laborious than you'd expect. Luckily, we have a team that has been up to the task over the years.
